The Film Chain

Production
The stages involved in producing a film?

  • The initial idea of the film of piece of production.
  • Next is the script writing. The idea is physically scribed on paper.
  • The casting is the step that follows. The right people are chosen.
  • The media shooting and filming is completed.
  • The pieces of filming are analysed and are edited.
  • Lastly is the distribution of the film (e.g selling it to cinemas)
The most famous film makers in America are:
Walt Disney animations
Warner bros pictures
Paramount pictures
20th Centry fox

An independent production is one in which the artist who created the production has sole control over the piece of production.

Distribution

  • Distribution is when a piece of media is broadcast to the mass media. This is evident through things such as television adverts.

  • The traditional way of distributing a film is through things known as film festivals

  • Television adverts would be a new way of distributing

  • A film festival is an organised presentation of films in one or more screening venues

  • If a film cant secure a distribution deal it will limit the success and potential of a film as it would have a lack of exposure; hence meaning, regardless of whether the film is good or not, it would not be seen.
Marketing

(1) It is the act of selling and promoting media through advertising. It is different as it sets the demographic of the audience.

(2)

The difference is that the Muppets is translated in Spanish so that Non-English speaking viewers can easily relate to the film/programme without having to read subtitles.

Exhibition

Audiences can either go to cinemas to watch films live, download the film and watch it offline on things such as laptops or watch it online illegally or legally.

A box office is a place where people who want to watch a film go to purchase tickets.

The box office calculates how many people who watch the film, therefore revealing how popular a film is with people in a specific area. It can also show how  much profit a film will be getting from ticket purchases.

Cinemas make their money from both selling food and selling film tickets.

Cinemas encourage people to watch films in cinemas rather than at home by advertising effects such as 3D and HD that would otherwise be unattainable at home.

Ancillary markets are are markets that are not theatrical. These can be things such as the Television or DVD's.

Lastly...

The BFI are the British Film Institution.

They are required to fund and support British films.

They provide British films with financial help and funding to help them get exposure.
